Phone Line Problems
Discussion
Hi all,
Have a curious problem at home.
Currently have no dial tones in our phones, however I can still connect to the internet!
I've tried 3 differnt phones with no success, all 3 have been tested in other houses and work fine.
I've tried plugging them into the same broadband filter that the router is plugged into and it still there's no dialing tone, despite the fact that the router, (plugged into the very same socket), works a-okay!
We've not changed anything - this fault has come out of the blue.
Before we get BT round and shafted, does anyone have any ideas, and more interestingly, how my internet connection is still working?!?!
Any ideas?!

ADSL can work independently of voice service.
The first thing to do is to locate the master socket, which looks like this:

Unscrew the front plate, and plug a phone into the test socket behind it. This disconnects all your internal wiring, so if there's no dial tone there, it's BT's problem and you won't be charged.

Go to www.bt.com & there is a report & test for faults on there. Works very well but you need to check the internal wiring first.

The broadband being connected shows the line is working, the filter takes out the high frequencies - so not having a dial tone usually shows all the frequencies are taken out hence the filter has failed. (or so my son said).
err, no! ADSL can work with one leg off. Find your master socket, hopefully it is an NTE5 as pictured above remove the front lower faceplate and plug your phone into the test socket behind. If it still doesn't work then it's a line fault that you can not fix (officially) so just contact service provider.ive just had the exact same problem then i was getting line trips where the phone could ring out but not recieve calls in, it was infuriating, after a call to bt and me thinking im going to go bankrupt they did a line test and determined the fault was at the point where the line entered the house. They renewed the wire entering the house and hey presto lines perfect now, infact better than before! ring BT and ask them to do a line test.
