Focus tailgate lock help please

Hi. My daily driver 06 Focus Estate has remote central locking from the buttons on the key. For the last few days, after unlocking the car and starting it up the tailgate unlocks itself and the dash warning tells me that the "luggage compartment (is) open". If I get out of the car and shut the tailgate, it immediately unlocks itself, time and again. For the rest of the trip the tailgate will bounce gently open and shut... When I lock the car again all appears ok.

Does anyone have any suggestions what might be the fault, before I start taking the tailgate apart? Any sensible suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

We had a similar problem on a C Max it was water ingress to the microswitch on the release button

Had it done under warranty, Fords have issued a TSB on the subject HTH.

Ah, thanks for that. I've just been looking at the tailgate and pulled off the rubber cover between the number plate lights where the switch is and a fair bit of water poured out... I've given it a squirt of WD40 to displace any moisture left in there and put it back together. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning.
