Taking the Cerb to Bedford for a track day next month where the noise limit is 101db. My car is de-catted with sports exhausts, and just bought a pair of these http://www.tvrcarparts.com/pages/partdetail.asp?id... to hopefully get through the tests. Does anyone have a similar setup and know what sort of level I can expect, and also how strict Bedford Autodrome is?

Very, very, very strict!

Find someone with a dB meter to check before hand as it'll be expensive day when you can't get 'out'

BTW: The chance of you getting anywhere near 101dB with decat and sports box with those things shoved up the exhaust are, IMHO, 0%!

Tim

PS: They measure drive by levels as well at Bedford

They made negligible difference on my decat/sports setup. Dropped it by 3-5dB at the most. Mine was putting out 131dB at 4500 rpm at the time.

I have proper clamp on extension cans which did do the trick untill I changed to a standard back box. At 101dB limit even they might be touch and go!

If you want to borrow the cans for your track day, I am in Bromley - drop me a PM

Hmmmm worrying stuff! Funnliy enough, I have a set of the bolt on cans, haven't tried those yet because I thought some tracks have an issue with them sticking out the back of the car. Will try and get hold of db meter and play around. Thanks for the info guys.

95 dB(A) at the ring.

Though I experienced much louder cars without being sanctioned.

not been myself but my neighbour goes 3-4 times a year and he says its all about your attitude and where you park for the test. if you turn up at the gates being brash and noisey revving your engine and being an idiot they will make things hard for you, also try avoiding get up against the wall as this will make you sound louder and draw attention to you.

I have the ACT SJ10-C45 full system with the tail end silencers. 6 silencers in all.

Sounds superb to be honest, having stood behind as the car was driven away.
No way near as loud as I thought, maybe because it is a nice deep sound??

But at only 4000rpm it measures >105db 1 metre 45 degree angle away above and between the two pipes, so think I will need the cat-silencers for track day stuff.

Oh dear, I have the same system as yours and was indending to do some track days/quarters this year, I know Elvington and Woodbridge have a 103dB Limit (C weighted) for NA engines, looks like I'll have bribe someone biggrin

Do you have a sound clip of the ACT's ? I only ask as I haven't fitted mine yet

I want to make up a large oval silencing box to replace the central part of the exhaust after the cats but before the pipes split and separate.

Surely this would significantly reduce noise, can't see why there isn't already something similar out there?

Those ACT's look amazing!

On my 4.2 with a standard back box and decats was 98.6 dB at Bedford in December (101dB limit) and the guys were shaking their heads when it was testing.

Going back there on Saturday with no changes but the limit is 100dB and its going to be cold. I am a bit worried to be honest, as long as I can get on the track it will be fine, no where near 87dB on the drive bys.

When will all you guys learn?

The Cerb is a V8 and therefore only revs to 5,750 rpm, just like the RV8.

If you all remember that you may find it a lot easier to pass noise testing, as readings are taken at 3/4 of max revs!!!!!!!!

Also they have massive valve overlap, so at 3-4000 rpm they will pop and bang under no load. This will drastically increase the volume on the meter.

Be in gear and slip the clutch very lightly with your foot on the brake. Loading the engine stops the pops and bangs.

Dang it! Looks like I will be putting some cats back on then, and trying the bolt on cans. Still not that confident though, will definitely be testing before I drive all the way there and get told to sod off! Thanks for all the info guys.
