Coming to a town near you if some people had their way!
If some people had their way? They're villagers. Oh, the relation of some people to this and it coming here because they're muslims?
The decision , whilst having influence from religion slightly, is mainly a cultural one.

So if it's largely cultural rather than religious, it should be easy to find similar examples in other cultures that are not predominantly muslim then. . . . . . . scratchchin

How much more rediculous is this than us locking up people for defending their homes?

Or refusing to let men sit with kids on planes?

Or any of the other totally bemusing rulings which our 'justice' system continues to make?

I'm not suggesting that these things are proportionally as bad as each other, far from it. I'm just pointing out that to an alien observing the earth, both cultures have completely balmy aspects to them.

I think you're confusing misogynistic religious culture masquerading as law with excessive political correctness and fear of litigation delivered via democratic statute.

I agree with what you're saying OTO but as my roots stem from the Indian subcontinent, what I see is a rather large proportion of families who dilute cultures with religion to fit them into their lifestyles. It's not just muslims but I do agree with you that a rather large majority of occurences are from this religion. Culture and religion are very bad mixtures with regards to Islam IMHO especially from the Indian subcontinent.

Indeed, this really sounds supremely nuts. I agree that it's mainly cultural rather than religious, but the boundaries are conveniently blurred, are they not...

I am sure the law stemmed from their mental religion.

They definately are blurred. This case would be very different if it was in the Middle Eastern countries.

I don't think that I am confusing them, I think I'm comparing them since they are both utterly unreasonable.

We have a democracy and 'Western Law' but I would say that our system is a LONG way from perfect. Once we live in a reasonable country with sensible laws then we will have more right to criticise others.

(Please don't misunderstand me, I think that the story in the OP is absolutely abhorrent and likewise our system being imprefect doesn't excuse that behaviour, but I'm pointing out Our system is pretty flawed too, just not to the same extent.)

Not off topic, that's relevant.

It shows our justice system to be an utter mockery. Like I said, aliens observing the earth would find actions of both societies preposterous.

Nothing on this planet Earth is so abhorrent as a human (predominantly male) using a pathetic excuse (religion in the main) to vent his twisted and evil ways on a defenceless and innocent fellow human!

Disgusting, the fact that he has only got 3 years for this. Jesus he will be at it again in no time.

fking wipe the little off the planet and deport his parents back to their country of origin or the parents parents country of origin.
