In the last 5 years, we (Mankind) have discovered that planets are in fact reasonably common. Some of those might be hospitable to life as we know it.
I suppose it matters if you measure "life out there" against how we have progressed.
When will be be ready to take to the stars and send slow generation ships to other stars?
Will we ever do it? What speeds will they reach?
Say we do in 500 years. Say we manage 3% Speed of light. Say we build more than one.
It doesnt make time really for us to spread amongst the local stars.
If there are pockets of intelligent life out there, the tech leap to cross the stars isnt as vast as we once thought. And so its conceivable that in the past or even now.. its possible.
Why is it then that only the ghost worshiping smelly people believe in "UFO's" not exactly the cream of humanity to welcome far off visitors.

Maybe we should hope they will come to us and share the tech to reach them. However, after observing us, they may not want us in their "neighborhood". I suppose it matters if you measure "life out there" against how we have progressed.

Lets be honest, what right-minded alien would? Unless they are middle class, socialist aliens who consider us to be some kind of 'worthy cause', in which case we probably wouldn't want them!
If they are here already they're probably ignoring humans and concentrating on the dominante species like insects and viruses.
