I was thinking about buying a fiesta xr2 mk2 and though before buying one I would ask what the main problems with them are

For example main rust areas to check, engine problems etc.

Could anyone help

There's an XR2 thread in the Readers Cars section that may interest you, especially if you like pictures of holes!...

Rust is the biggest and only major issue due to their age now there are no particular areas to look for you need to look everywhere dont worry about anything mechanical its easily and cheaply fixed buy on body condition alone and enjoy some old school fun thumbup

Rust, even the rust is at risk of going rusty. If in doubt check for rust, inner/outer wings, wheel well, sills, doors, petrol caps, floors, pillars, engine mounts, I think the roofs are generally good though unless they have a sunroof then check for rust.

Other than that engines are quite sensitive to low oil levels and (on mine at least) the wheel bearings weren't exactly longlife items.
