Why do people like the mazda mx5?
Discussion
Meant to be a sports car but has little power & a tiny engine surely you would fall asleep at the wheel!
Cant understand how a sports car can be so dull or is it just me?
It might be rwd but not enough power to get it sideways!
Never really got them or is it just the fact that they have two seats & a soft top!
I appreciate that they are jap & reliable but thats it!!!
Anyone else agree or am i being harsh?

NOT ENOUGH POWER TO GO SIDEWAYS?!!?! I can go sideways in my MX5 (in the dry) if I want to (and if the misses isn't in the car
).It also handles very nicely. Comfortable to drive etc. For me, it's great (and no, I'm not a fanboy!!).
I think you are being very harsh. Maybe you just don't like the 2 seater cabriolet thang??
Cheers

P.S. You forgot your flame suit

Have you properly driven one?
There is a reason that they made it into Evo's top ten list.
No they aren't fast. (Not that slow though, just depends on what you're comparing it to.)
Yes, they ARE sports cars. They make a drive feel different to the normal saloon 'commute'.
And come with normal road car running costs.
What's not to like?

They've got more power than my Caterham did originally, and I had no problem getting that sideways on demand. I think you'll see sports cars returning to the principles of light weight, simplicity and delicacy.

However i understand that they must be nicer to drive than a saloon but my opinion is that a proper sports car should be quick & also like 2 seater open tops for pose value so this is what makes them popular.
Didnt mean to offend anyone just my thoughts.

Of course, on track, especially those with long straights, the low power of the MX5 will be exposed, but on tight tracks or UK B-roads an MX5 is a very capable tool in the hands of a good driver.
