Although not sure why I should.

I work from home so have got used to the neighbours asking me to receive parcels, go to their kids school plays in the day, help lift stuff, drop them off places etc. I think they assume that because I am at home all day I am somehow watching day tuime TV whilist being 'independently wealthy' or on the dole. I have worked hard to educate them into not popping in for coffee for hours on end as most of them are retired or don't need to work full time.

Today I got a knock on the door from the old dear down the road who thinks my wife promised to draw her a map of where the vets was in town, which she hadn't, but it was an easy run so I gave her directions and my A-Z open at the page (she knew the road, just not the exact building). Bugger me if she didn't want me to take her down town and show her where it was. Then made me feel like a complete tt when I said I was too busy as I was working. Then she came back with the A0-Z and dropped very heavy hints I could drive her when she picks the cat up in the morning

So why do I feel so bad?

You're a soft touch and the neighbours know it.

Don't feel bad, sometimes you just have to say 'no'. It hurts, but somehow it helps you to become a better person for YOU. HTH

Helping out older people can actually feel quite rewarding.

If they're not abusing your generosity, then helping someone less able can only be a good thing.

It is the "Working from home" malarkey....

You sit there, aimlessly looking at a PC, doing bugger all.. (Despite the fact you have set something up to run hours ago, and are keeping an eye on it)

You are then free to do all the bloody household tasks, faff about on PH (this is allowed) pick up kids etc etc etc...

Me too, just need to get on with it! (and I work bloody hard as well)

Im like you, I try to be as nice as possible, even to the point of inconviniancing myself to help others. The problem is where do you draw the line, and feeling bad about it even though you've helped them.

Wireless webcam set up by the front door. If you're working and the door bell goes, you can see who it is and whether or not it's worth answering. Problem solved!

She thinks you're a pussy! Ever watched As Good As It Gets? Jack Nicholson's character had a winning formula for dealing with visitors whilst he was working...

Take her, and the cat, for a high speed hoon en-route to the vet. She probably wont even ask for a run back to her house, job done.

Don't answer the door.

Or come on to one of the local kids, that'll sort it.

Do you genuinely think that's the correct spelling of 'inconveniencing'?

Shocking.

Her other trick is turning up at BBQs univited with a slice of bread and asking if she can have a sausage. She must be gagging for it.

Neighbour says I was right to refuse because last time he showed weakness he was fixing her roof, her PC ( which I have also done), putting up shelves, mending leaks, clearing snow, carrying her shopping and running her errands. I wouldn't mind but she had a daughter 6 miles away who is recently retired and visits twice a year.

Sp....Asshole is incorrectly spelt, but the swear filter prevents me from typing the correct spelling. Sorry....
