Removing front brake disks

k me! Is it difficult or what?
Spent an hour today with a 2 pound hammer, hitting one front brake disk to get it off. Hit - turn - hit - turn - hit etc etc. Limited room to get a swing at it.
I've hit it until my arm is nearly dropping off - it's moving, it's past the edge of the hub, but it's still as tight as a wossname. Problem is that the inside of the disk bell is rusty so the hub flange doesn't want to come out of the rear.
I tried a big hub puller on it, but I couldn't get it to centralise properly.
I had to stop because as I had a doctor's appointment (not because of the exertion, the appointment was there already!) so I'm going to go back to it later. I think I might try to make a bigger puller out of a tyre lever and a couple of spring compressors.
Has anybody else found a successful method that doesn't involve hiring somebody with arms like Popeye?

hi,
its an old answer but, bigger hammer?!
seriously I had to do this a few years ago on an old fiat and a combination of wd40 (even though there is physically a build up of solid rust, lubricant does help), swearing and a 4 pound club hammer got all four of them off evetually!
Other than that my only other suggestion would be , do you posses an angle grinder?(or could blag one?). Now the disc is slightly clear of the hub could you put a cut across the bell and brake surfaces ( minding the hub!)and hopefully then when whacking it with a bigger hammer it "might" oblige and crack in two and fall off!!
still alot of work but a change is as good as a rest they say!
have fun,
Belchy

I'm using the biggest hammer I have (I think it's a 5 lb now that I look at it) apart from the 14lb sledge... seriously I had to do this a few years ago on an old fiat and a combination of wd40 (even though there is physically a build up of solid rust, lubricant does help), swearing and a 4 pound club hammer got all four of them off evetually!

I'd put plus gas on the front and back and it is is helping, but it's still not for moving!

Boiling water.....seriously, boil a kettle of water and pour over the disk then tap with a mallet.... the heat expands the disk
I was heating the bell with a blowlamp, and that got it moving in the first place, maybe I'll just have to persevere with that (good job I bought more blowlamp gas yesterday...)

Heat / cold will definitely help.
I had my pistons in the oven last night whilst the gudgeon pins were in the freezer to enable them to slot in nicely
I remember fitting a starter ring gear to an old Ford in - gawd it must have been about 1976... flywheel in freezer, ring gear in oven, went on no bother, then shrunk to fit perfectly... It took my mother ages to calm down when she found what we'd done to the freezer... It was dad's idea though, so I escaped the worst of the attempted revenge family poisoning.I had my pistons in the oven last night whilst the gudgeon pins were in the freezer to enable them to slot in nicely

Good plans lads!
