Just bought myself a 2008 3.0ltr 325iSE Coupe and absolutely love it.........except for the engine note. Although it's a petrol model and only done 6500 miles it sounds more like a diesel. My old 2.5ltr 325 sounded far sweeter. Is this normal on the newer cars? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Surely it is under warranty, so unless it is being run on low/zero oil or something such like it should be covered, take it to your local dealer.

My old one was an 2002 E46 325i M-Sport. The new one is under still under warranty so no problems in that respect. Don't get me wrong, it's not a big issue, just doesn't sound how I was expecting. It's not an out and out diesel sound, just quite "tapperty" so maybe it is just the norm nowadays. I just thought I would ask you knowledgeable fellas before I talk to the dealer.

2002 E46 325 M Sport.

My exact car. And I might also add one of the smoothest and aurally pleasing engines i've ever driven.

Having not driven the newer model I can't really comment, but perhaps your just hoping it would sound/feel as good??
