Are Job Hunters really this thick?
Discussion
Currently have a vacancy advertised, which specifies amongst other things a set of skills and qualifications that the sucessful applicant will need. It also has a very boldly typed closing date of 22nd February and a very detailed description of the roles and responsibilities, and it states clearly that applications will only be accepted in the form of a CV and covering letter sent by post.
Somehow people seem to think it is going to do them some justice by calling to ask the closing date, calling to ask for application forms, emailing me their CV with badly written accompanying emails, and totally disreguarding the required qualifications for the post in question.
I give up

Not stupid, possibly just upping their number of aplications if the job center demand you apply for 5 jobs or they stop your money what would you do? Applying for 5 jobs irrespective of relevance would probably be your first move.
Applying for 5 jobs you've got no chance of getting will be the first move for lots of them! They don't want to accidently end up getting one! Think Spud from Trainspotting!Engineer1 said:

If I am honest it is the ones that ask questions that are answered on the form more than the random hopefuls who at least follow the instructions. In my experience, and has been discussed at length on here, it's the recruiters who are the ones who tend to be thick (there are exceptions of course). Lifting the phone to speak to them before sending CV's help to sift those who are "fishing" from those who are genuine. I'm sick of sending my CV for roles and not hearing back, but that's a story for a different day
No excuse though for spelling mistakes, sending wrong info etc.

I feel your pain. It's pretty annoying having to sift through 60 odd CVs and find only one that's even slightly relevent. Headhunt... it saves so much time and you get to do the selection. I can't use monster anymore, even searching something specific i'll find maybe 3 good people in a search of 100.

Generally we would headhunt and we have tried through pretty much all of our contacts (and still are) to find the right person who is either willing to move or to stop being a freelancer for a year or two at least. There are just not enough of the right sort of person around, next level up lots, next level down lots. We may end up appointing someone and paying them for some intensive training. Sounds like you need to use an agency if you already don't?
I guess that he works for an agency already... Rob13 said:
Sounds a great job, but like you say poorly paid. It tends to be that if you work outdoors, you get peanuts in comparison with being stuck in a glass box all day
Even senior jobs are not huge money but normally the offer of permanent work and evenings/weekends to play swings it in favour of places like ours. Gassing Station | Jobs & Employment Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
