Vaughan Fletcher No:15 Cadwell Track Day 6th February
Open pit lane 105dBA limit

We headed off to a cold Cadwell on Saturday 6th Feb, for a friends and family track day. We were also planning to use the day to test the car some more. We were keen to see what difference’s the last lot of modifications made to the car, and how the lap times would compare to those from last year’s races.
Given that heavy snow was falling mid week, there was some anticipation about whether the day would still go ahead.
Whilst a track day wouldn’t be an exact comparison, (due to the rules surrounding overtaking etc), it was hoped it would give us an indication.
The forecast was for a cold and drizzly day, and it didn’t disappoint!
The early start saw Vaughan head off with the race outfit at about 5am, with a couple of car loads following at a slightly more reasonable time!
At just over 2 miles in length, this picturesque circuit opened its gates in 1934. Known as the “Mini Nürburgring” due to its mixture of twists, turns and the spectacular “Mountain”, the track nestles in the Lincolnshire countryside just a few miles from Louth.
During the closed season, there has been a major circuit improvement project to extend the run-off area at “Barn Corner”.
The corner has been developed to realign the crash barrier along an 80 metre exit of “Barn Corner”. This creates a uniform 5 metre run off beyond the exit, on to the start/finish straight. This additional run off provides improved safety for the drivers and riders that compete at Cadwell.

Upon arrival at half past 8, the air temp was hovering around freezing! This was a stark contrast to the last time we were here with the Nippon Challenge in June 2009, when it was in the high 20’s!
The paddock was sheet ice, as were many of the roads leading to Cadwell. We passed several cars in ditches!
The car was unloaded from the trailer and treated to some vinyl’s from one of our new sponsors “Total Impreza”.

The car was changed over to wets, due to the weather, but we were still waiting for the confirmation we could run on track.
The car had the noise level checked, which was 92dBA.

Despite the weather, the turnout was good with around 30 cars in attendance, which covered a wide range of styles. There was a good selection of Subaru’s, including one from the 2009 ScoobySprint events.
There was also a racing 2CV, and a well prepared Volvo S40 to add to the cars.

At around midday, the call we expected came, and the day was cancelled. The track was too dangerous to drive, what with the ice and fog.
It was a disappointment to say the least, but we are looking to go back on the 21st Feb, for another crack at Cadwell.

Saw your car, looks nice, would have liked to have been on the track with you
Didn't get a chance to speak as I had a missfire with the Caterham, and had to do a Halfrauds trip to get some new spark plugs. When it was running ok, the day got cancelled.
Oh and I wasn't the chap in the green Caterham Jacket, who in the briefing kept moaning about overtaking on the correct side
