Magnecor Leads

I've had no problems with mine either, been on the car for a few years now.
Alan, were you having any problems with them when they were ripped off the car by the Indy?
If I tell you that, no one will buy them off me Alan, were you having any problems with them when they were ripped off the car by the Indy?

..........The car was serviced at TorqueRVT, Ian just didn't rate Magnecour, he told me they would be arcing, took them off and he was right, and reccomended (or forced) me to use standard ones which he reckoned were better - who am I a to argue with a trusted Indie? it did cure a slight misfire at high revs, and I've had no problems with the standard ones.I put a set of the red Magnecors on when I got the Cerb. Within 6 months one lead was disintegrating and a couple of the others were arcing. I replaced them with standard leads which are still in great condition.
Considering the Magnecors cost around twice as much as a standard set, you certainly don't get twice the life out of them!

Being sold by Peninsular, brand new, I put a set on my Griff and had no problems with them.

There were a few threads about the Mags a few years back (2-3 I think), they were a bit hit or miss. At the time Joolz had a company making up stronger more reliable replacements and a set of these were put on mine and were fine, I think a few other Cerbs will be running these also, the std one's are ok and will last a few years so as long as they are changed routinely then owners shouldn't have major probs with them. If you've got the Mags fitted and are having no problems then there is no need to worry as they'll hopefully be fine for a while yet.
At £30 a pop the ebay one's might be worth the risk?
Jules.

I also had a set, they were binned very quickly, in fact sent back to Magnecor for appraisal, then de-constructed and the MD, some Aussie chap also called Phil contacted me, only after getting a bit shirty was I offered a refund which ended up as a virtual credit with another distributor, whom I forgot as my car was off the road for 14 months (not Magnecor related)and subsequently am left out of pocket
with hindsight I'd rather chew mud than fit them to my Cerb.
Magnecor took umbridge with two Indies at the time and even threatened legal action against one of them, the upshot was the leads still made my car (and another which shall remain nameless) run like a drain and as soon as Bougicord (the TVR o.e.) were offered it ran absolutely superb.
so if the Magnecor reseller can remember and reads this, please contact me as i still want either my money or a credit....thanks

What running problems did you suffer exactly? Would be interested to know as I have Magnecor on mine and having a small issue, maybe related.

The car tended to hesitate under acceleration upto 2.5-3k revs, it was akin to the effect of worn throttle linkages you can get with a 4.2, also very difficult if not impossible to set correct idle speed as the engine tended to 'hunt'. We (The Indie and myself) swapped throttle pots and spent hours with a gauge checking inlet pressures and adaptives. Then we simply switched the leads and all was well. Took the car out for a spin and she flew like a good un.Considering the Magnicors had been on <1k miles there was also slight evidence of carbon traces (arcing) but this was denied by Magnicor. When I asked for the leads to be returned (so I could send them away to a friend who works at a well known University laboritory) I was told they had been disassembled during tests

Don't get me wrong the bloke from Magnicors seemed concerned (but it was difficult in explaining that the Cerb is not an RV8 engine
) to rectify the problem and even offered for me to take the car to Austec and put it on their rolling road etc, however as I KNEW the problem related directly to the leads and was not about to drive 400 miles there and back again at my own expense I declined. When i/we offered to invite him up to either the factory or to either of two preferred Indies he declined and offered me a credit of £100 +VAT. The purchase price of said leads. Shame I can't remember who the Magnicor reseller was though. Now I have known some 4.5s to have Magnicor leads without any trouble, but these were cars that had not been mapped or even tuned to any great effect, so the problem which I incurred isn't really relevant to this, however I would like to know if any of the more 'progressively tuned' 4.5 lads are running Magnicor?
I've got them, no problems what so ever. Have been through three to four set of the blue TVR ones though.
Where the metal strap goes across the fuel rail I have protected it with a peice of rubber pipe
looked like it could cut into the leads if left as it was. All the blue leads melted from manifold heat.
