Booking Spain, with Easyjet, with a short passport?Problem?

As per title really, I seem to be suffering some conflicting information, both guaranteed 100% the case, and need some clarification.

I have less than 6 months on my passport. My new one is on it's way. Is there really anything stopping me booking the flight, in May, with Easyjet, to Valencia, using my old passport number, and amending the booking details ie. my passport number, online, when my new passport arrives?

I was initally told, despite my scepticism, that you can't make a booking to Spain with less then 6 months left on your current passport, so I have applied for a new passport, 6 months early, and waited patiently while prices have gone up daily only to be told now that this is not the case and that you submit your passport details shortly before flying for forwarding to the Spanish authorities.

And of course, do you think there is a contact number to possibly ask the airline or anything in the FAQ's...
