... or maybe (as with most things) it only takes a few people to ruin it for everyone, and it wasn't quite as bad as people made out..

When I bought my Griff from him (2 years ago), I understood from chatting to him that it was really a case of him sticking to sales under the £25k mark. I'm sure I've seen a Tuscan advertised by him in the last year or two - IIRC that went very quickly for around the low £30k area.

As for Mr Blyth's bravery re: Speed 6 cars - when you've bought it, it's yours, and any later problems should be addressed to the warranty people!

2 Tuscans, 100% hit rate (or should that be bang rate), one rebuilt before I got it and had a constant throttle misfire which proved incurable and the other one had a rebuild while I had it...

Joolz, I think you're right yet again (BTW I'm saving my pennies for that chip and I hope this cheap jab at faint praise will get me at least a 10p discount!)

Cheers

Yes its true....the toes are being dipped back in the water.

Sufficiently encouraged by Blackpools quality control initiatives, engine modifications and unbiased customer feedback we are, as always, selecting a few choice examples.

Bloody hell he's just agreed to buy another!!

Fair point and sorry to hear that. My family has owned several "luxury german marques" over the years, which are supposed to be ultra reliable... and we've had more problems with them, than with my Mum's Fiats...hence I don't subscribe to the "they are all unreliable / reliable" theory...

A customer of mine recently told me a tale of remarkable incompetence and appalling build quality relating to the most prestigious of German sports cars. I also have experience of a Merc 600SEL (1992) that was so shockingly bad it ended up being binned and replaced by a 750i BMW. I also owned a Range Rover from new that was so awful I had to be towed 4 times in the first year of ownership. (My Tuscan on the other hand is through 13 months of ownership and no engine issues at all).

This goes on all the time but all we hear on here are boring storious of Speed 6 failure, often from people who have never owned one or who seem to have an axe to grind, for whatever reason.

Let's give it a rest.

Apart from the initial I really wish you guys the best of luck.

You know what's on my wish list (when I've finished trashing the last bucket* you sold me )

It was a leap of faith for me buying a TVR in the first place for every day use, but I'll be in the queue when the right Tuscan comes up.

* Fellow Punters, that was a JOKE - the car I bought from Adrian is the second love of my life and has been everything I could have wished for over the last three and a bit years. The only reason I won't be among Adrians first SP6 customers is that there's still more fun to be had from the Griff!

Just to clarify ....since you purchased your Griff Julian and following useful customer feedback we now operate our own well received no-nonsense warranties....so unlike an insurance backed warranty.....you aren't left on your own at the inevitable mercy of the warranty company!

The fact that a specialist who knows the marquee very well is selling Speed Sixes bodes well IMO, as its a small business so Adrian couldn't afford to take a risk with it.

Main dealers have been (and still are?) very coy about the issues as publicising them would affect their business - sames goes for TVR itself obviously.

But things do appear to have settled down somewhat, and whatever has occured in the past doesn't change the fact that its a fantastic engine.

Reading an article today about recalls, currently at around 1 million a year and rising, including occurences from those oh-so reliable German cars (BMW & VW). And lets not even get onto the reliability of the new Merc SL......

To be fair to AB, don't they get their cars looked at by Dave Batty, if so that's as good as it gets
If i were looking at a SP6 car then the AB/DB partnership would be as good a safeguard as any.

That warrants a Big Al stylee: "Oh "

Most of us are well aware that you never say "never" when it comes to anything TVR, though.

Colin - are you agreeing to the misery of warranty claims generally or have you had good experience of ABs offerings?

You bought a car with a warranty, and in the first 9 months you STILL had to pay £2000 pounds for repairs? Would you REALLY consider buying another car from that same garage?

AB provided a great service, and I understood at the time that any issues would be down to the warranty company - and we all know the score there.

I bought the car knowing that it had been looked over by David Batty, I paid an extra £375 to extend the warranty from 3 to 12 months - it was really down to the warranty people refusing to pay for things like a top end rebuild to replace a totally worn camshaft (at 42k), several visits to different garages to try and cure an issue with the doors (they opened of their own accord, very regularly!) The n/s driveshaft unbolted itself 6 weeks into ownership (thankfully I was pulling away, rather than travelling at speed, as the rear wheels locked). And a few other bits and pieces needed doing.

I was unlucky, but then I went into TVR ownership with my eyes open. I was expecting the odd big bill to appear, just not so soon into ownership. I certainly wouldn't have any negative comments where Mr Blyth is concerned, and the fact that he now offers his own warranty would certainly encourage me to go back. I just need to wait until the T350s start to reach the £25k mark!

Have been thinking about the indies selling S6 cars after the probs with them.

I suppose the indie dealers have to cater for demand, and the Tusc / T350 / Tamora models do make up an ever increasing market in the realms of TVR's.

I suppose the earlier S6 cars they are selling will all nearly have had the upgrade / rebuild work done, so have a much reduced risk of popping again.

What do people think?
