Hi all,

I've been looking for a Boxster for a while now and the following has just come along my way:-

98 - S reg
2.5 in silver including Lux pack (red leather interior including A/C)
74,000 miles
Full service history from AFN Chiswick
Immaculate condition (no accidents)
Cost - £18,500

Do you think this sounds a good deal ?
Should I be concerned about the highish mileage ?

If I decide to go for it is there anyone around the Surrey area you could recommend giving it the once over to make sure it is all legit ?

Your collective help is greatly appreciated !!!

Thanks
Stu

True the mileage is a little highish, but as long as the car looks and drives as well as it sounds, I would go for it.....

Porsche ownership for the price of a new Mondeo, run it a couple of years, sell it and get most of your money back..........

Buy or not, well i think it depends on youre budget. Is this your top amount. If not what is ? If you can push it further then clearly it makes sense to go for a lower milage car.If youre pushing your budget then i wouldnt be concerned about the milage provided there is sound sevice history.

Personally I would only worry about the millage if the car was expensive - its not, and to be honest its not that high. My jag and Porsche have nearly 300k between them.
To be honest I prefer to but higher millage cars as I tend to build the miles quite a bit so they are all high by the time I sell. The biggest mistake in my book if buy low (top money) and sell high (bottom money) If you do 5k a year and like low milers then go ahead buy very low you will still be abel to sell it as a low miler two years later. Or buy in the 90s and sell 150+. Its all about keeping in the same part of the market- and in my experice little to do with the cost of tunnig the car unles you buy a car of your age which has had non of the peripherals changed/ A new clutch plus disks all round can begin to make any 'cheap' car look a bit less cheap

Looks like you found a great car for fantastic money -don't delay -I lost a car on Wednesday by thinking about it an hour too long

GT1 in Chertsey will look at it - they are a good outfit

Get a Porsche specialist (dealer or reputable independant) to check it over. Do it quickly. If necessary put a deposit on it with the written verification that you _will_ get your deposit back if _for any reason_ you decide to walk away.

James s' advice on high milers is v.true. Best of luck, the 2.5 is a sweet little car, but no grunt monster! I always felt mine was just begging for more horses...

Just brought my car after paying for offical Porsche check on the car (£120.00 + vat). They are overly critical to the point of ridiculous (they found a tiny crack in the wooden steering wheel of my car.I do mean tiny..) but at least you have a complete picture. They are so fussy because the check over is the prelude to issuing a warranty on a car for about a grand. ie if they find anything they will not warranty the car until its fixed to their exact spec...very strict. Only then will they issue the warranty, and then refund the original cost of the checkover.

The 2.5 Boxster is very underpowered but a nice car.The one I drove felt no stronger engine wise than my current steed at the time, a 318is BMW!

Hi all,

Thanks for the great advice.

Is there any specialist(s) you would recommend giving the car the once over?

How would one go about getting an official Porsche specialist to look over the car?

Once again the car is located in Surrey

Many thanks again

Camtune well recomended- Godlaming (sp?)

Nearest OPC prob Guildford.

There are other ways of contacting an OPC, I would prefer to use the telephone as I have found that smoke signals, homeing pigions, jungle drums and semaphore flags are less than 100% effective.

You could of course go to the OPC in person & talk to them, which again I have found more effective than other methods- such as using an expressive form of modern dance with an acompanying soundtrack of whale song to put across my message.

I would buy it for 17K, and get a 3.2 conversion done from Ninemeister Racing. Then you have a Boxster S for early 20K's

Nevermind the S conversion.......save up a bit and get the GT3 lump dropped in!
Colin (9M Racing) was going to let us all know what it would cost. He was going to do an exchange deal, but you wouln't get as much for your 2.5 lump compared to someone giving him their 3.2.

Porsche-Apart has a MY2000 996 engine with 20k miles on it for listed 3995, why not get that fitted instead? If it's good enough for RUF...

Wonders if it'd fit in his 964C2...
