So then, im after some info on what should have been changed on a Tamora with 25k on the clock. From what I understand the clutch and flywheel have been replaced at 24k as well as 9 services from new. Is there a scheduled engine rebuild due or something big that is going to hit me in the pocket within the first few months of ownership, apart from the typical unexpected. any other info or things to look for would be great.

Cheers
Chris

The engine re-build would only be needed if it goes bang I would suggest. There isn't a 're-build' in the service schedule I dont believe. The services should have covered the regular maintenance items such as the tappet adjustments etc.

Other than that, its just if things go wrong and need replacing, such as engine mounts etc.

I'm sure there will be more knowledgeable people along shortly to confirm or correct me.

If it were mine OR a purchase I was considering, I would have it inspected. It could cost 2-£300 or cheaper of the TVR garage that looks at it gets to do the repair work. An inspection will not only highlight faults but any work that is required in the near future as well as costing for those cosmetic/nice to do bits.

I got an inspection report (part of the service) from Str8six when I had my service in Sept. Jason also went through the list with me and showed me what he had highlighted in the report and offered his opinion on the priority/options for the repairs.

There are lots of good TVR inspectors, it depends where you are in the UK

I should hope not with 9 services over 24k eek

How has it managed that? I've only had 9 (including PDI) on a 7 year old car with 43k miles - oh and the clutch lasted 'till 42k

Never say never, but I would have thought after 25k the usual (cough) teething problems will have been sorted

Get the engine checked by Str8 six or TVR power or at least someone that knows what they are looking at. The number of services has minimal impact on engine wear / potential to pop, my engine for one had apparently been serviced and things were not as they should have been prior to the rebuild. My engine had done 30k miles, being toted as having had a full rebuild at 28k.

Its good news its been serviced so much, but also important is who did it and the physical wear on the engine, some wear badly, some dont...

As already said, clutch is another check, i think that takes care of the major items? The rest is common sense....chassis, shocks, smooth gearbox, watertight hood etc...

Barry,
If you dont mind emailing me more details that would be great. At the moment im not looking to spend £17k or money like that as that will leave me no money for when things do go wrong.

At Oulton yesterday and there was a chap with a T350 with 130k on the clock, It had a TVRPower rebuild at 70k and is still going strong.

Thats good news to hear! Do you know what year the 350 was?

OP - Whats your budget? - I'm guessing yous looking at an 02-03 model?
25k is not particularly high mileage but a lot of the early S6 engines were prone to failure but theres certainly no scheduled rebuild, more a combination of taking care of the enigine and luck!
It sounds like it's been serviced on time regardless of mileage, have the valve checks been done as well? Should form part of a 12k servie.
Who are the service centres - are they well known and respected?
Check the chassis, especially around the cats as the early cars had no heatshield protection.
A new clutch is good, was the slave also changed?
Get it inspected in any case by a respected indie/dealer - so they can also get it up on the ramps.
Any links to an advert in case it's a known car on here? When I was looking for a T350 I posted a load of cars I was interested in. A number of them had been seen or known to people on here and I was strongly warned away from a couple.

well the car in question is this. http://pistonheads.com/sales/1397078.htm
Most of the recent work has been carried out by TVRFIX of surrey. The problem i have at the moment is trying to shift the 350z in order to make way for a tvr. Im in no rush to buy so im just making sure i do my homework before i go ahead and do it.

Will do, But 17k wont buy it

Buy the latest car you can afford, Don't get too hung up on thinking the engine will blow up. Mine is a late 04 engine and has been loooked inside and is perfect it has also had mods done on the oil ways to increase oil to the rockers.

Guilty as charged. Rebuilt at 60k, almost 70k since. Was originally built in early 2004.

At first glance it seems to be a good car at a very good price. The seller seems pretty honest about it not being A1 cosmetically and he also appears pretty knowledgeable about the car, commenting on such things as the 16" wheels etc. TVR Fix also carried out the last few services and they are very well respected in TVR circles. Providing it's mechanically sound with a good chassis it may be a bit of a bargain but get checked out by a TVR specialist!

Dunno. Owner can't even be bothered to clean it inside or out. Mmmm scratchchin
I'd go and have a look if you're interested, BUT expect to find a £12k car
