gearbox removal

I need some advice please, is it better to try and disconnect linkage from below ? cannot see how you get at it from above, there looks like a fibreglass plate screwed down with a load of sound deadning material, does gearknob just unscrew ?? its not coming off without a fight !! cheers for any info you have.

Gear knob just unscrews.

FG plate screwed on top on trans tunnel, also sealant used to stop fume ingress.

Remove plate, then access is available to undo what you like to get the box out.

I believe that some garages do it this way, but it must be very difficult as I found it to be quite tricky to separate the remote gear linkage when working from above. That was because it's not just a nut/bolt holding the linkage on but a plastic sleeve with plastic washers either side (btw these can be renewed).

I did mine from below. Didn't touch anything from above. Isn't such a faff; I did have use of a lift however.

Those bloody sleeves took me longer to get out than the rest of the box altogether I think some twit must have glued them in! If anybody ever tries to convince me to convert to a T5 don't wonder when I look at them like they completely lost their marbles

do you know what I glad i am not alone, the information that is in the TVR Bible was not very helpfull ... at least a haynes type manual would give clue how to get this box out !!including some useful pictures

Still not quite sussed out what the point of them is though

Nice pic Bruce, I disconnected the linkage from above, it was those plastic pins that were the pain, wished I saw that pic before as I see there is now a different way it can be tackled.
