combi boiler advice
Discussion
Quotes were roughly £2500 for the British Gas one, that was installed by them and included wireless room thermostat and running new gas pipe from meter. (quite suprised by that quote - was expecting much more)
The Worcester came in about £2200 supplied and fitted by a local plumber.
Both units were being put in exactly the same position as previous combi and only other addition was going to be a condensate drain which we dont have currently.
Am actually quite interested by the BG one is it has higher output but not sure of the quality / reliability. Have also heard good things about the Worcester but would welcome opinions on the BG boiler

You're right the BG quote is surprisingly good for them. I also like the look of the local plumbers quote. My replacement is excatly the same as yours new boiler in same place but will need a condensing tube. The BG bolier is probably a more common make but under their name so may be hard to find info on.
ETA:
Just had a search and it would seem that the BG 542 is in fact the worcester 42CDI, see here for specs - http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/worcester-greens...
So in fact is a really good deal from them. It is a supperior boiler but only if you actually need the extra power!

British gas use worcester boilers which are made by bosch. They are by far the best boilers on the market, so go for whoever offers you the best price.
British gas don't just fit Worcester boilers, and Worcester bosch are just at prone to failure as many other makes. There seems to be a preconceived notion the Worcester Bosch are THE best boilers money can buy but this simply isn't the case.neil-c said:
Road2Ruin, where do you see that the BG boiler is a re-branded Worcester 42? Cant find anything on this. Anyone else know if this is true?
Thanks to everyone for the information so far, much appreciated

Sorry for the delay in replying. Here is one link to the info, it's listed somewhere down the page. http://www.applianceheatingspares.co.uk/Worcester_...
But do a search in google under the british gas reference and you will find a few pages refering to it. Also if you look at the specs they are identical!
