Can anyone explain what a Diploma of Higher Education is?

And whether it can be used as credit points for an Hons Degree at a Uni?

Thanks in advance. Some Googling has revealed some inconsistent results.

Most Uni. qualifications go in stages - Certificate, Diploma, Degree. A Diploma would usually be available to someone who completed 2 year of a degree level programme of study.

If accepted, it usually can't be "cashed in" in the future towards another degree (unless the awarding institution has a clearly defined route for that to happen) as it marks a completion point and also, by implication, says that the course was either only 2 years or the person holding it failed to complete the 3rd year for some reason.

Afaik its equivalent to a HND, Im currently studying for a Foundation Degree on a day release basis and after 2 years we have been awarded a Diploma of Higher Education, with completion of the third year brining the Foundation Degree.

It would be useful if it could be used as credit towards a degree or similar. Any others know any more info?

It may allow entry with advanced standing - but each case is different and depends on the local policy and admissions tutor. Best to talk to some Universities directly.

Call the university admissions office where you want to attend?

Failing that UCAS.

In my day, the early 90's, an HND was worth 180 credit points toward a degree which was 360 points, an HNC, i was lead to believe, was equivalent to 120 points.

It may well have all changed now but thats how it was aaaaaallllllllll that time ago.
