OK, need some thoughts on this one! Over the last few years (I know I know, just been busy with other problems!) my Cerb has 'developed' a vibration that starts at about 70mph and gets worse the faster you go (on a private road obviously). I am pretty sure it started after the engine was moved on its mounts to fix a cracked exhaust manifold. Since then, the engine has been out for a complete rebuild, and serviced a couple of times. At the last service, it was noted that the engine was not quite central, so has been moved. The vibration is now MUCH worse, so that at speed the driver's door looks/feels like it is about to shake off!

Before anyone suggests, it is not the wheels, as the vibration was there before and after fitting completely new wheels and tyres. The vibration also seems to oscillate a bit. Could a misalignment between the engine/gearbox/driveshaft etc cause this? I was thinking of maybe loosening the mounts and shifting the engine to one side and testing, but this may well be beyond my abilities!

Guessing here - knackered engine mounting?

Not sure why it would only be at higher speeds though.

I doubt it as I am sure these would have been noticed at the time of engine rebuild (Andy at APM) or at last service.

Have any of the body to chassis fixing points been touched?

It might be worth checking them on the affected side, particularly if the vibration doesn't seem to be coming from the unsprung part of the car.

Will do, thanks for the suggestion. Just to to find them/get to them now!

That sounds more likely........how would I go about checking/fixing?

I agree, rolling road would be an idea seeing as it's road speed related. Not sure you'd be able to see much but worth a try.

You could book it in for a tune up and when the RR guy says there's vibration, just ask him to fix that first. biggrin

Quick update. Was heading down the propshaft balancing route, but decided to have a look at the drivers side door first. Turns out the inner and outer skins of the door had come apart all along the front edge! Got my bodyshop mate to carry out a repair/strengthening fix and the door is now solid again. I think the actual vibration from the car is still there, but it must have seemed a lot worse because of the state of the door. We live and learn!
