Which is better/ more reliable? I've heard that the x5 is very reliable and held in high regard by their owners. However, I think that a 7series with same engine would be a better drive. I've heard some horror stories about the idrive system? Anyone got any opinions/ facts, etc I would love to hear everything.

I mean the X5 is better for putting bikes in the back, but mum would easily get in the 7, but struggle with the x5 as she has arthritis. Is the 7 as good to drive as the x5 or better?

i-drive is criticised by retards. Its not perfect but nowhere near as bad as some people make it out to be.

I'd say its up to you. Both very different vehicles.

I'd probably opt for the seven myself but thats just a personal choice

Well surprisingly, fuel is better on the 7 as its lighter and insurance is £200 less for me too. I can put that towards a new amplifier when it goes lol.

Yes, i bought a new e70 x5 3.0d back in Nov 07.

Fantastic car. Loved it to bits. Sold it on just before the freefall in 4x4 values mid 2008, as i was doing big miles and the combo of heavy finance payments and heavy fuel consumption (£500 in a month for fuel) meant it wasnt viable for me to keep it.

Really enjoyed it though. It had all the toys too. Just a pity about the costs.

Everyone i speak to thats actually had an x5 loved it to bits. Must say something I guess. Most people that have 7's never stop at one though. When its the same engine, I guess they should both be similar apart from the height etc. So how are they very different when lots of their parts are shared. I've never been in either.

I'd have another x5 in the morning if i could justify the running costs.

If i was specifically looking for a large v8 petrol engined car though, the 7 would be my choice.

The X5 is a confused beast and has image issues.

The 7 is a very refined piece of kit that does exactly what it says on the tin.

Eh?

Hows it a confused beast?

I think its a very well reconciled 4x4. It does exactly what is expected of it. And does it exceptionally well.

You could also argue that a 7 series has image issues - given the movement towards smaller more economical cars

I-drive is great. I think you have to be quite thick not to understand it and maybe shouldn't be behind the wheel of any car let alone a BMW with any kind of performance.
