I know the normal CS3 doesn't open the new Canon format of RAW files so I'm using the rather odd package provided with the camera to conver the RAWs to tiffs.

Once they are open in PS I can save only as a few different type of files (PSD, PDF, TIFF and one or two more) but it won't let me save anything as a jpeg which is really gettin frustrating.

Why does PS not allow me to convert to jpegs so I can upload to flickr without using loads of space?

(or is it me being thick?)

Your imported Tiff files are 16 bit and Jpegs can only be saved as 8 bit.

Go to Image>Mode and change the file to 8 bit. You will then have the option to save as Jpeg.

Not sure if I'd call any of my shots stunning but I'm trying!

You can download ACR5.6 I think and use that independantly of CS3.

Or use DPP 3.7.2

I downloaded the DNG convertor from Adobe. Pain in the arse at first but its now made me really sort out my workflow and decide what I want to keep/lose from the off, rather than just keeping scores of pictures.

Thats strange, is there not an acr update because there is one for Lightroom, which i'd recommend for processing RAW files by the way.
