Moving to Edinburgh
Discussion
When I first moved to Edinburgh I lived in Marchmont, and I thought it a great place to live: not too far from centre, decent shops etc. I'd definitely recommend it, as I would Morningside (a bit further out than Marchmont), Meadows, Bruntsfield. I now live to the north of the centre: Stockbridge I would also say is a great pat of town, also Comely Bank, Canonmills, New Town. Most places of that distance away from the centre are OK

Thanks for the replies guys!!!!...much appreciated...was thinkin of getting a mortgage with my GF for about £220k and get a property...Flat or house, I'm not too bothered...as long as the area is safe (no chavs etc), close to the city centre (20 mins walk max) and the property itself is fairly modern....
Is £220k enough for me to get a "nice" place in a "nice" area?

That should be enough for a good flat in Marchmont, which is probably the best area based on what you say. Trouble there is parking, the streets are overloaded with cars, in some places they are double parking overnight! Comely Bank should be doable on that budget as well, but again there are parking problems as there will be in any near central area.Is £220k enough for me to get a "nice" place in a "nice" area?

If you haven't seen it already, *most* property in Edinburgh is listed on http://www.espc.com/

Just go and see lots of flats. Most will be open viewing Thursday 6-8 and Sunday 2-4 so just make a list and charge round as many as you can.
Also try www.globrix.com - ESPC will have 80% of all property on it, but Globrix mops up the rest, Retties, Savilles etc.
