Servicing a D50

My trusty D50 needs a thorough service/clean.

I know that Nikon offer this service, but I've heard they have your camera for up to 6 weeks

Firstly, is that true?

Secondly, is there any recommendations for someone that provides that service with a quick turnaround time. To be honest I can't be without it for that long (if it's true).

Location wise, I'm close to Windsor; and a few miles west of Heathrow ... and Nikon themselves are a short drive away (assuming they are still in Kingston).

And on costs - anyone have an approximate cost?

I'll second Fixation - they did a great job rebuilding my 17-55mm f2.8 which I had turned into a kit of slightly bent parts.

I'm only a little Joe Punter in comparison to you; but I'm impressed at how their 'professional' customers get priority over little me.

Although it may something to be peeved about - if I was a pro, then that's exactly the kind of service I'd expect

All customers are important, but they do give priority to people who need their stuff back for a live job next weekend. The main thing is that they give you accurate info and don't let you down.

Unfortunately I sold my last spare camera today, so I can't help you out

Mines not urgent (fortuantely). Just needs a service and damn good clean. And my lenses too.
