Some friends of ours are getting married in Sardinia in July. I started to look at flights and was very much surprised to hear my missus suggest we took the car down.....having reminded her that she would only have the small case to live out of, she was still v up for the thought.

So the start point is Glasgow. I'd quite like to spend a couple of days in the south of France around Aix en Provence, Arles, Nice and then drive through Monaco and onto Genoa to get the ferry over.

I can't be arsed driving all the way down to Dover unless I have to.

What do the PH massive think about taking the ferry over from Hull and going down that side? Any other recommendations for places to stop / visit? If I did the chunnel, I would probably stop overnight at Lyons and go from there.

Good idea - like you I can't be bothered with the drive to Dover. Nice crossing, arrive refreshed and off you go. Taking into account petrol and hotels it's not really that expensive either

I used Hull to Rotterdam in December. The crossing was real smooth despite the weather so we decided to use the Hull to Zeebrugge in June for Le Mans instead of our normal tunnel route. I can't offer any places to stop off as it's usually a one day drive for me to get to the Alps or Italy.

Oh and if you haven't driven the Autostrada in Genova yet then it'll be an experience wink
