Times said:
Taxpayers are spending nearly £1 million a month on a quango that is unable to do the job for which it was created and will be scrapped if the Tories win the general election.

The Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC), formed in October, has a chairman, Sir Michael Pitt, who is being paid £184,000 a year for a four-day working week. It has well-appointed new offices in Bristol and has hired dozens of staff, including seven commissioners on salaries equivalent to £100,000 per year.

But the organisation is unable to perform the task it was set, approving planning decisions for big energy and infrastructure projects such as nuclear power stations and high-voltage transmission lines, because the Government has yet to define the legal guidelines it should apply.

It's times like this that make me glad I've just got a job in the public sector. They may be incompetant but by God they pay well.

With waste of private sector taxpayers' money like that, is it any wonder that tax revenue is less than expenditure? Labour economics in action...

Are we meant to be surprised at this level of incompetence?

And 1 million a month is but a drop in the Ocean compared to some of the IT projects HMG has f****ed up.

EFA - the words "private sector" removed.

Its everybody's money that is getting wasted.

Few ways. Sometimes good old fashioned hard work, loyalty and honesty.

Mostly knowing the right people and doing/saying the correct things.

It is not what you know it is whom you know i believe the saying goes....

And self perpetuating because to get a job you always have to have had 'board level experience in a similar quango" so they all keep moving around as each 3 or 5 year tenure period ends.

God forbid they should have anybody who doesn't know which knife to use or whats on at Covent Garden OH.

What a stupid post.
Btw, "incompetent".
So, you'll fit in well?
Now, if you'd said you're going to shake them up and show them how to achieve their aims.
Just sounds like you're going to slide into the pit of mediocrity.
There was me thinking that PHers were made of sterner stuff.

The public sector is merely a job creation scheme.

We know it, they aren't smart enough to know it, but it's the way it is and we couldn't have it an other way. We'd be third world without it - you've seen Somalia? Imagine another ten million 'tards without a job to go to (on top of the "unemployed" now) - we'd be living in a dribbling mess. Let's keep these people occupied and out of trouble.

Have a very cushy job for 20 years then sit back and enjoy a nice pension. You go on like they actually care.

Join the gubberment, start an rebelion. Even somewhere small and insignificant like a school. You will never ever make it to a position of power with that attitude. They dont want to change. And be honest - if you really didn't care would you kick up a stink just for the hell of it?
