Want to replace my current wheels, they need to go on another bike. I don't want to spend a fortune, maybe £250? Need to be for std 6 bolt disc brakes. I may want to go tubeless at some point. Mainly cycle XC and on tracks and road, so no heavy use.

Been looking on the Merlin website for ideas.

Any recommendations?

I was in the market for a new set of wheels recently. After speaking to my girlfriends father (who is an ex pro wheel builder) he said that the best value wheel out there was the mavic crossride. I got the pair for £129.99 with the 6 bolt adaptors. (they are actually centre lock but come with a machined adaptor which locks them into place, no bolts required) When they arrived we put them in the wheel jig to check them out. One was perfect, one needed a slight tweak to one spoke but he reckoned they were pretty good.

They have easily serviceable hubs and freewheel, and they look pretty cool.

He reckoned you'd have to spend a lot more to get a better wheel...

Well I did look at the Mavic Crossrides, at £125 they are half my budget! I suppose I could spend the rest on some brakes?

I have a nearly complete bike which needs wheels and disc brakes, made it up out of old parts over the past few years. I want to buy new stuff for my main bike and then use the old for my second hack.

I was in the same position. I had looked at spending around £260 on a different build but was advised to get these instead... I've had them on for quite a few rides now and am very pleased with them. They're a fair bit lighter than my previous low'ish spec Mavic/Shimano wheel combo and they are really nice quality.

I'd get them and then buy some new brakes but everyone else will probably tell you to buy Hope Hoops. I guess the Mavic combo will last longer as you'll have nice new brakes to stop you crashing into things! wink

Really can't go wrong with Hope Hubs - £250 should get you some Hope Pro2 hubs with either Mavic 819 or Stans rims which are both tubeless ready and the hubs will last forever.

Look nor further than a set of Hope Hoops. Great wheels, and made in the UK to boot.

You can't go wrong!

Okay Hope Hoops are looking like they will do what I want, quite like the idea of the Stans 355 rims as I can then go tubeless with my next tyre change.

So next question, any better/cheaper places to buy them? Anyone know of any deals going on? CRC/Wiggle etc all appear to be around the same price.
