Microsoft overcharge for software shock wink

Bill Gates donates $10bn to vaccine work

According to Forbes he is still worth $46.5bn (down from $101bn before various bubbles burst), so that's a hefty chunk donated. Good man.

Gates is a top bloke and no doubt.

And it's not just the money. He now works full time on giving it away!

How many of us would just be driving expensive cars around for a giggle with his fortune...

I hope that there is a system in place to see that his money goes to where he wishes and is not hijacked by tinpots and warlords.

So all these vaccines will save 8 million lives in the worlds poorest countries.

Tell me who is going to feed them all and the next generation when they all multiply like rabits as is the cultural norm usualy in poor countries. will it not increase suffering?

"reduce dramatically child mortality in the world’s poorest countries. It is calculated that his pledge could save more than 8 million lives. "

What they need is a vaccine that will prevent fecundity.

Bill Gates and his wife plan on giving away all of his fortune every penny as he feels his kids should work for what they have in life iirc. Seems like a very nice guy with his head screwed on mostly right.

To be fair though there was another us billionaire a while back gave up half his 5billion fortune or somethin and challenged gates to match him iirc

This is a very serious guy. He is pushing his money where the drug industry will not go, because there is no profit. He may save more lives than anyone in history. I think it is to be admired.

That isn't quite true. He will give his kids $10M each, enough to never work but not mega-rich these days. All the rest he'll spend. Top bloke.

Why are some people moaning that Bill Gates has decided to save lives. It's his money he can spends it the way he wishes, and IMO, a very admirable venture. So, how much money are the moaners spending feeding the needy in the third world? furious

Don't know what the current status is, but a couple of years ago Bill and his wife's foundation was accumulating money faster than they could give it away, and if they don't give a certain amount per year then it loses its tax free status.

only on an internet forum can you see people complaining about a 10 billion dollar donation to charity!
get a grip on how much money that is, it's enough to pay off 1/10th of Dr Evil's ransom.
not to be sniffed at

Not only has he put his own cash into the Foundation, when Warren Buffet finally falls off his perch, most of his cash will be going into the thing too. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will be able to start buying & selling countries !!!

Gates is not a bad bloke at all in my book.
