Anyone know this car???

Don't really know much about Nobles yet to be honest - is it a big disadvantage to buy an early one like this as opposed to a 3R?

Have read the Evo buying guide from a couple years back - they seem to say a ECU update is essential on an early car, but would cost a couple grand (plus temptation then to get into LSD upgrades etc)

In the short term might run it as a daily driver - is this insane?

I would say you could probably do better for the money, I see it has very low milage.
ECU does seem to be a bit of an issue on the older cars and I think it needs a new loom if you change it.
Some guys are very happy with their 2-5's

Very happy with my 2.5 and can honestly say I couldn't justify upgrading to 3R or M400. However I bought it with the ECU already upgraded & I had it converted to Quaife LSD. Apart from those items, I imagine any other likely issues are probably the same throughout the range.

You only need to worry about the ECU if it doesn't have a MBE or aftermarket one. They were changed from standard around car number 35 AFAIK.

To be honest, I'd be amazed if there was one with an original MM one but it's a dead easy check.

mine is a 2.5 no. 36 out of the factory and it had the ecu that goes wrong.I brought mine unknowingly and a few suort weeks later ended up having to have it replaced with the omex ecu and loom being moded. And it cost me £3500 which was not in my budget so i had to pimp out the mrs for some kwik cash. I would say dont buy one that has the problematic ecu even if it seems to have no faults because u cant remap them. So if you ever want to upgrade any thing on the car you cant get it mapped to get the best out of your upgrade. Apart from that i'm so happy with mine and when ever it goes to a garage for any work they tell me it drives faultlessly. Although thats prob just to help me part with the cash when the bill is handed over.

Having not seen the car myself and only going by the pictures/description, I'd say its a time-warp car with those miles so if the history backs it up and it hasn't been standing outside for very long allowing the brakes/susp/chassis/etc to corrode to hell, its good value.

The only reason I haven't looked myself is because I'm (still!!) holding out for a 3R. But it does look very nice.

Anyone know much about this car? It doesn't appear to have a lot of history or a replacement ECU, perhaps due to the low mileage?

It's maintenance much more than mileage that matters with a Noble. Well used examples should have had their problems ironed out and useful mods done. Low mileage may have them yet to emerge....though my GTO3 needs a new clutch soon :-(

Everyone would have said this .. but buy on condition and not mileage.

Check the maintenance history to ensure that the car has been well maintained and if possible get someone to inspect it for you.

I see no reason why they can't be used as a daily driver. They are insanely easy to drive around town!

You would have to remove many of my limbs before I will let go of my 3R. I've had no problems with my car, though now I am just tidying it up and improving it to make it perfect as I intend to keep it for a long long long long time.

Well, a bizarre situation. After I viewed the car last weekend (Sat) I sent an offer through via email on Sunday. Heard nothing so phoned and was told that the offer wasn't enough. I have progressively upped the offer until I have now offered the asking price today, only to be told someone is travelling a long way to view on Saturday (like I did last week) and they are holding the car until after they have been.

Sounds ridiculously dodgy to me....

No dealer would turn down the asking price for a car because someone is going to look at it the next day.

So it appears it's got little history, the wrong ECU and they don't return your correspondence?
Walk.

yes it makes more sense to offer in person but an offer is an offer at end of day be that phone person or e mail etc.I know if someone was going to pay the asking price for something of mine i would bite there arm off as you never know this car could be sitting on the forecourt for another couple of months.I personally wood not like to be treated like you have your money is as good as the next persons and to think that you have offered the asking price and they are still mucking you about it does not make sense?.At the end of the day on principal id walk as i do beleive that there are better deals to be had out there although it is rare to find cars at that age with that mileage.I wish you all the luck in the world whatever you do.

Cheers Chris

Perhaps? Made via email on Sunday due to them being closed and can't see the problem with putting the offer in writing. At least all parties are clear that way - I put it in writing because the sales person was unsure if the normal 3 months warranty would be included and I requested that it was. As per previous post though, I phoned them when I hadn't heard back.
I am sure they are very well respected and not suggesting otherwise, just seems a bit strange.

How can a salesperson not know if it had a 3 month warranty?! It's a sales trick,so that when they chuck it in you think you're getting a better deal. For 2/3 grand more you're into private 3R/GTO3 money, that's where I'd be going I think.(No offence to 2.5 owners. more a reflection on the way he's being treated)

At £24000 id expect a years parts and labour warranty at the end of the day you can expect to only get 3 months on a motor of low value but id expect more on a car of this value. These dealers will try to turn the screw if you let them.Your the one with all the ace cards i beleive the buyer always should have the upper hand and if not happy walk away plenty more fish in the sea as they say

Just for the record i remember going to look at a car 4 yrs back and the service i got was borderline ridiculous.Got to the dealer car was parked up outside had a quick nose around before going in it was a right state was very dirty for starters which was a no no on selling a car.Went inside spoke to dealer about car was then taken for a test drive for a huge 2 miles or so (blast up carriageway and back)He wood not let me test drive the car which took the piss i thought how is he going to sell without a test drive. His answer was that it was a very powerful car and he could not risk it written off on a test drive.i was really pissed off by now and to add insult to injury he said that the car was sold without a warranty and he could kindly(lol)arrange one for £1000 a pop.Made me realise that if i was very careful and did all the research that private was the way to go for me.Im sure that the majority of dealers etc are great but there are some bad eggs out there that if noy careful will take you for a ride

Perhaps fate is telling me something?
Just spoken to PM himself and he assumed I wasn't interested in the car as when he (unannounced/introduced) appeared in the showroom, I was just leaving and didn't say much. That is despite spending about an hour going over the car and asking the salesman loads of things and then making a written offer the following day.
I have just offered the full asking price and been told that someone is coming to look at the car tomorrow so it is being held for them. That is the first time I have £24k of my own money refused and don't mind sharing that fact with others.
Please note, this car isn't theirs to sell - they are selling it on behalf of someone, so I haven't even had the opportunity to "haggle" with them.
Respect the comment that PM made that they are very traditional in their approach, but after a big round trip, overnight hotel and incremental offers up to the asking price, things have become very sour.
PS If they can't agree a deal / p/ex with the customer tomorrow, they will be hot on the phone!
