Bit bored this weekend so I have decided to remove rear floor plates to clean/treat/repaint the chassis rails.

I have stripped most easily removable bits from the rear of the car and I think that I should be able to get at most of the worst with a wire brush and flapper wheel. Is it worth going any further and should I be looking at anything else while I have the car up on the ramps and bits removed?
Has anybody treated the floor plates with anything or just clean and replace?

Few pics

Did you manage to reverse straight onto those ramps with the rear clam on?

No, I jacked the car up and pushed the ramps under. Tried driving up the ramps (not in the Noble) and find they just slip on the garage floor + I dont think the rear clam would clear.
Thought about buying a pair of adjustable car ramps as I dont really like getting the car high enough on a trolley jack to push the ramps under.

That looks a nice job, you have obviously taken the exhaust off. I hope that I can get a decent enough job done without removing the exhaust as I dont want to have to disturb the joints.
In the picture it looks like you have cut a piece of the chassis out (under where the exhaust would be)?

Had a problem where the exhaust rubbed a hole in the chasis rail !!!! thus causing it to rust realy bad .....had to move it over a bit ....after that i skimmed the top of the chasis to stop the water puddling up in it !!

Eventually got round to finishing the small weekend job I started 3 weeks ago!

Initial rust after removing rear floor plates.

After a lot of cleaning with various wire brushes, drill attachments etc + coat of primer and 2 coats smooth hammerite

Parts closest to exhaust wrapped with aluminium foil tape and heat barrier matting

Had enough left over to do air box

All back together ready for rear clam

All looks a lot neater, all I need now is for it to stop raining so I can get out and drive the damn thingbiggrin
