Hi there,

Maybe the original owner liked green?!

There are a few eyebrow raising colour combo's out there on BMW's as well as many other cars - but original owners aren't always enthusiasts like we pn PH are. Some people, actually, I'd say the vast majority of the driving population simply don't have a clue what a car is and how it should/could be specced up. That's why quite a few cars end up being laughed at in the enthusiast community!

There was a similar posting on a site where an Alpina E39 B10 Touring was underspecced and was also in green, similar sort of thing to this, the original owner probably didn't have a clue!

The worst thing is though, if the 1st owner DID have a clue and is/was an enthusiast - then yes, what the hell were they thinking!!!

Cheers, Dennis! West London & Slough UK!

That is not even close to "worst eva" or Stevie Wonder spec - the green leather is maybe questionable but the car actually looks like a nice, unmolested one. The grey suits the car very well (of course carbon black is much better....) but if you were so inclined it would be very easy to colour the seats black.

You say it's the worst colour combo ever however many people do not understand why my m3 is grey but with red leather!

But then again the people who don't like it are non enthusiasts who probably don't like a bright yellow or orange lambo!

There is a BMW E34 Individual made with the most amazing purple leather interior I have ever seen...this car is now in a Swiss collection I believe but looks just daft.

There's an E39 M5 on PH classifieds(on page 3) being sold by Avantgarde, which is Le Mans Blue with individual Violet Blue heritage leather and wood trim.

When I read the description I thought it would be horrid, but in the photos it actually looks very nice and is also a bit different.

or maybe they don't give a st what others think, they like the colour and buy based on what they like and not for resale value, just a thought!

Please don't post stuff like that without some sort of warning. I nearly did loose the six pints that I had carefully invested in this lunchtime wink

.. I quite like that. Not as much as the green one, but that's not too bad.

Shame there was no oxblood option on the M5, I always thought that on carbon black would have been very cool.

Odd that people will actively look for that colour if there is a dancing donkey on the steering wheel rather than a blue and white propellor. .... Well maybe not EXACTLY that shade.

Odd how some colour combos are very manufacturer specific.

Grey is sooooo dull.

Techno Violet would go much better with that nice green interior.

Do you guys really think that the original purchaser spending over £60k on a new car gives two hoots as to what people think about the colour / spec choices they made 9 years ago ?

BMW offer an "individual" programme - its all in the wording !

Not saying that all colour / specs are to my taste, I only wish I was in a position wher I could choose the colour / spec on an M5 from new !

Indeed.

There's also the theory that a more unusual colour combo makes a BMW/MB/Audi etc less attractive to cloners, as opposed to the proliferation of silver/black/grey cars with black interiors, that are easier to match up.
I wonder if it's quantifiable whether the supposed hit taken with a less saleable car at trade in, is less or more than the cost of no-claims loss/total loss etc if a car stolen/cloned etc.,....??????
