I finally got round to changing the oil on the 350i but now I have no pressure. I primed the filter and filled it back up as soon as I could. I took the king lead off the coil and turned her over but still no pressure. Any thought would be appreciated ? on a different note the coil was arcing whilst I was turning the car over - then is stopped arcing - could I have screwed something up doing this?

Cheers

Not the oil pump itself drained away of oil? Well known trick/remedy is to pack out the pump with 'vaseline' to prime it. Something like that.

There is a description in SH's bible on how to do it etc..

Probably come up on a search on here too!

As long as you weren't driving it or doing anything else silly with zero pressure all should be ok - a techy will post soon with a more detailed answer smile

Just a thought but are the doobery wotsits that connect to the gauge (telling to say pressure of how much) in tact?

5 liters of valvoline in as a initial fill. I had a pressure of 25 before I started. Cheers Shaun

I'm not clear whether you actually started the car after the oil change, or were just trying to get the pressure up on the starter. It should be easy enough to at least get the warning light to go out just on the starter, but you really need to disconnect the fuelling, not just the sparks (remove the pump relay). Isolating the LT side is also preferable. Would normally take me maybe 3 goes of 6 or 7 seconds on the starter to get the light out. The other possibility is that the oil pressure relief valve is stuck open, requiring a strip down of the pump, although you can remove the hex headed cover on the pump prior to this to check whether the valve drops out on its own, and is therefore not stuck.

A couple of things to check!
Is the low oil pressure warning light on? Does it go out when you crank engine!
if it does what type of pressure gauge do you have?
If its an early one which has a tube to the gauge you may have an air lock in it hence no oil pressure.
If its an electrical gauge check the wires are still fitted and secure.

Try that then come back with the answers for more cheap friendly advice! It will not fix the car but its good fun!!!!!!

And you can use the "Adam Quantrill" method - in the bible too - I could tell you here but it would violate copyright ;^)

I believe the traditional way is to pinch someone else's work, wrap it up in a fancy cover and flog it on Ebay. Or your own website, if you have one. Then when someone else pinches 'your' work, you are expected to be overcome with righteous indignation and demand satisfaction...

Hey Ian - did you lift that from my Blog "Flames wars of the 1990's???" ;^)

Anyhoo my method is quite simple, take off the oil filter and squirt a good 1/4 pint of engine oil down the central hole, replace oil filter, and let her rip. One advantage of having that remote filter thingy.

Oil pressure requires the pickup in the sump to work properly. It seems that the RV8 engine is prone having potential problems in this area (not a personal experience). Myself would check everything and prime again (used once the 'take out distributor and use a drill' and it worked). If not ok, would have a look at the pickup in the sump.

Regarding the coil make sure it is disconnected before you try again by disconnecting the power supply to it.
