I decided it was time to update my printer yesterday and am now the proud owner of a HP printer/scanner. Only problem is I can't use it!

I have tried to scan a photo, put it in the printer, pushed the scan button, and it seems to do the job. An image then appears in my documents (which I am unable to open)

It is in PDF format so is this the issue? Does it somehow now need to be converted to jpeg? Or am I just doing it incorrectly?

Thanks for the help.

All saved to my pictures, but unlike all my other images you cannot view the scanned image unless you click into the document. When you do this, you are unable to save image to desktop background like all the others.

Is this because of the file format.

I am looking to scan quite a few images, so it would be handy to see them all in my pictures, rather than having to enter in to every file to see what the image is.

Any suggestions?

Yes , I would assume you will need to read the manual to see how to configure the scan settings to save as jpeg and the quality of the scan . What model of HP printer? What software did you install for it?

It is a HP deskjet F4580. I just plugged it in and installed the disk that came with it, and away I went. Can you scan them onto a PC and then transfer the files to jpeg in some way?

Under the Start Menu you should have an HP program menu. Under there should be a program called something scan. With Epson it is called Epson Scan.

Open this, and from here you will be able to preview and scan things on the glass. There will also be a settings option where you will probably find it is set to scan to PDF.
Once you have found this, it should be pretty obvious how to change it to JPEG. Also remember to set the JPEG compression to 100% best quality so you dont lose any quality on the scan.
Its alway best to start of with the best quality before start converting the pic for other purposes. You can always reduce the quality/size but not the other way round.
