My Specialized boots have finally been beaten to death, and it's time for some new shoes (or boots).

I'm looking at the Five Ten Impact 2s, and wondered if anyone has any experience of them? They have a fantastic reputation for grip (essential, as I only run Flats), so they appear to tick all the boxes.

The 'Highs' fit the bill:

...but I quite like the look of the 'Sam Hills' as well:

I've the Impact 2 Lows, and they're *very* good.

They're also useless in the wet, soaking up 10x their own weight in water, and taking an eternity to dry out. And they're fugly with it.

Thanks for that - I get the 'fugly' bit, but I didn't realize they were that bad for soaking up water!

If you get the freeride ones there is a lot less padding to soak up water. The impacts are made for protecting your feet when riding DH but are heavy and sponge like. The freerides are a lot more like normal trainers so lighter and less padding but with the sticky rubber.

Same here, they grip so well with a set of DMR V12s though... to the point where it's awkward to adjust foot position mid-ride!

They get sodden, take ages to dry and stink as a result. I'd prefer velcro or similar again next time too as the 43 foot long laces they provide are a pain at the end of a ride when muddy sodden and wanting to get in the car quick smile
