Hi everyone, just got myself a completly standard old Rover 216 GTI (SOHC)about 1050kg ish as a run about for a bit and wanted to see what this track day stuff is all about while I have it.

I have a bit of experience at the Nurburgring but only a few laps.

Now my question...

The brakes on my car are disc front and drum rear. The front discs and pads are about 6k miles old according to the service history but not to bad condition life wise. However I already notice for normal to fast road use they dont seem to be up for much and I assume its not very good pads?

I want to keep things as reasonably cost effective as possible for my first outing so if I were to change the break pads for some uprated ones (suggestons?) and leave the discs in as standard and also change the brake fluid to some castrol dot 5.1 i have in the garage would I fair ok for a first timer?

Im looking to find something at Bedworth or Mallory Park if that helps.

Cheers

Matt

Change the fluid as it won't have been done for years.

I use normal road pads and disks in mine smile nice and cheep however they can smoke a bit.

I was doing 8-10 laps each time I went out at Snetterton yesterday without fade.
