60th Birthday/Retirement present ?
Discussion
Evening .
Looking for some ideas/suggestions on a watch for my Dad's soon to be 60th and retirement . I dont quite have as much to spend as i would like but maybe up to £800 - £1k at a push . He's not one for OTT puff Diddly type jewellery so something subtle and smart - preferably something with a day/date function .
Any help would be great
Thanks.

Would a "birth year" watch mean more to him? Lots of nice vintage Omegas and the like from that time and in budget. I picked up this Seamaster for my dad's 60th (in a couple of years!):

It was well inside your budget, but it did come from scouring ebay for a few weeks. If you're in more of a hurry there's a vintage Omega shop in Burlington Arcade which may be able to help. Pricier but all fully serviced and warranted. http://www.omegavintage.com/
Else something like a Stowa Marine Auto would be nice but it's an 8 week wait for them right now. Or look at Oris and Hamilton who do some very nice autos in budget.

Picked up a bi-metal Rolex Datejust for my dad for his 60th last year. It was given to him as a surprise, and he was in total shock to say the least when he opened the box. The look on his face justified the cost of the watch instantly. He absolutely loved/loves it.
To the OP - definitely a great idea. A birth year Omega or even Rolex for that matter would be very fitting (not sure if a Rolex of that vintage can be had for +/- £1k?).
Either that or check out www.heuerboy.com. There are usually some decent vintage watches up for sale on there... Heuer and non-Heuer as well.
