Just saw on the news that the lady who mowed down about six kids and injured them last September (in Suffolk) is having No Further Action taken against her by the police?

Why not? If a lad had mowed these kids down he'd be the wrong side of a dangerous driving charge and be jailed....

Can't see any more information about this, but seems that the medial reports have given another side to this and/or extenuating circumstances.

Did she do it on purpose or was it an accident?

W£as she driving under the influence of alcoohol?

Was she driving under the influnce of illegal drugs?

Was she driving under the influnce of legal drugs?

Did she suffer an unexpected medical problem - such as blacking out (it does happen).

Judgements are usually based on the circumstances surrounding an incident, not just the outcome of the incident.

She could have a valid reason that caused her to lose control of her actions. If she could present suitable evidence before being charged then it stands to reason they wouldn't proceed with the case.

Sometimes genuine accidents do happen.

Yes, that is what the news said. But my first thought was that if there IS/WAS some medical condition which caused her to wipe out 8 kids and put them in hospital then it is surely enough to revoke her Driving License?

There is a difference between wiping someone out and putting them in hospital, surely?

The outcome of an accident is down to good or bad luck. The law will look at what caused the accident to occur in the first place. If the driver had extenuating circumstances which caused the accident, why should she suffer more because of an unfortunate outcome.

I was merely commenting on JasandJules' use of "wipe out" and "put in hospital" in the same sentence. Saying someone is wiped out typically means they have been killed. Why would they end up in a hospital if they are already dead?

There was a recent case in the North West, dicussed on PH, where a woman in a Range Rover had literally run over two cyclists, killing one of them, before driving right over a roundabout. She was able to provide compelling enough medical evidence to suggest she had feinted, which was supported by her lack of action before, during and after the collision, without any suggestion she had an underlying medical condition that should prevent her from driving in the first place.

In fact, the medical expert suggested that 50% of adults feint at some point in their life for no apparent reason and with no underlying condition or lasitng ill effects afterwards.

Sometimes accidents do happen and it really is just a case of wrong place, wrong time.

yes

Would still like to know what it was that they think caused this though.

Very close to home this one.

It is not close to home to me, but I cannot help but think that the public have a right to know what caused her to mow down half a dozen kids who were walking to school.

And yes, perhaps wiped out was a bit of a silly phrase, I was thinking of "wipe out" on the TV....
