Hi all,
Posting on behalf of Mr BC here so please excuse my technical incompetence.

Whilst Mr BC was bleeding the front brakes on the Cerb yesterday the caliper kind of, errr, disintegrated - the bit around the bleed nipple came apart.

It seems that its quite difficult to get hold of replacement calipers for a 4.5 cerb as AP don't make them anymore. Have tried Power, TVR Car Parts, Clever Trevor and Bell Hill.
We think our only options now are to either see if AP can repair it or to replace the whole caboodle (apparently that's the technical term for uprights, mounting bracket, caliper, disk, pads).

I just thought it might be good idea to ask you clever chaps whether we've missed anything here. Is there anywhere else we could try in our search for a front drivers side caliper ?

Thanks in advance

Penny

So have you snapped off the top of the bleed nipple as per the other thread on rear calipers?

I believe so. We had a read of that thread yesterday and will read again before attempting the others.

Actually, the other topic was to do with the bleed nipple itself breaking. From your picture it looks like part of the actual brake casting has broke. IMO I wouldn't want to try and get it repaired, I'd be after a replacement. There was someone on eBay selling generic brake calipers that were of the same casting. In fact it might have even been Reyland or BG Developments.

We did find a link via PH to an ebay shop that I think belonged to Reyland. The calipers looked different though. I'll get Mr BC to give them a call to see what they have.

Agreed - you might be able to fix that but you don't want to be taking chances with brakes.

Can't advise on a replacement though.

Make sure that you get a caliper with 152mm mounting centres (CP5200 series) the later cars Tusc, T350 etc used a different caliper (CP6600 from memory) which will not fit.

I would suggest trying here, or auto wash repairs. Iirc they have a couple of 4.5's between them at the moment. Hope you get it sorted soon.

These are the 4 bolt Calipers, you need 6 bolt for a 4.5.

Thank you all so much for your help. I've managed to locate some at Douglas Valley (Cheers to Ron McC and DanTVR for making that suggestion) and with any luck they'll be here in a day or two.

I just bought a single 4.5 caliper from TVR Glen, he has a couple of cars advertised in the pistonheads classifieds at the moment. Maybe worth a call, I found him very helpful and the price was not unreasonable, may be worth a call.
