My 18 months contract is about to expire, and my phone has a fault.

My current 16gb 3G phone has developed a slight fault at the moment. I'm not getting any sound throuh the earpiece for calls. When the earphones are plugged in or it's switch to hands free it works fine. Obviously a little inconvenient.
Now I love the iphone and all it's functionality, so not interested in switching to another alternative handset.

The blogs and webpages recon that the next generation replacement to the 3GS is due out maybe in June/July.

If i was to take out a new contract they would give me £148 for my current handset and then an upgrade to 3GS would only be £40. Where as to get my current phone fixed would cost £50.

So what does one do, change the handset now and lock myself into a new contract for a further 18 months or wait for the new model hoping for funky new functionality and put up with the fault until July?

Thoughts please tech geeks...

i had this probelm
was told to resinsert the 3.5mm jack, and then take it out again

sometimes the phone doesn't realise you've taken the jack out of the socket, and tries to direct a call to the non-existent headphones

I'm more or less in the same position as you:-

Basically, I am going to be waiting for the HTC Bravo to be released.

get it fixed (as long as there is nothing else wrong with the phone) and have it unlocked if you haven't already done so and put it onto an iPhone simplicity tariff. If there is a new phone coming out and you get that then you can always try and sell the 3g one and the same applies even if a new phone doesn't come out and you plump for a 3gs.
