Two Year 'Factory' Cover For Used Ferraris

Ferrari claims its new 24month warranty is industry-leading

'04 612 Scaglietti - more cover available
Ferrari has announced a new two year 'factory' warranty on all cars sold by dealers through its approved used scheme, which is an upgrade on the 12 months previously offered.

The warranty cover - which Ferrari claims is industry-leading - includes the usual caveats over maintenance and servicing (i.e. you've got to do it 'by the book'), but is available on all Ferrari models up to eight years old when the original warranty expires.

The cover is the same as the new car warranty, and is under-written by Ferrari itself and not a third party insurer.

On top of the new cover, customers of the approved used scheme will also receive a free subscription to the Ferrari magazine (whoop, whoop!), as well as Ferrari roadside assistance for the duration.

Although we're not in the market (pending ongoing discussions about the 'team PH' remuneration package...), we're guessing 24 months of warranty cover could be a powerful draw when it comes to tempting novice - and quite possibly nervous - owners into the Ferrari fold.

Can see this being a good thing. As the story states, how many people are put off buying a ferrari in fear of something going wrong and costing an arm and a leg to fix it.

Wonder if there is a milage cap?

No mileage cap. Its just the normal ferrari warranty, which you could have bought anyway from Ferrari. You in effect you are saving £2k. However, this will probably have more of a beneficial psychological effect than the facts justify. Another boot in the ribs for Lamborghini; perhaps they will rethink their warranty issues.

Surely this isn't such a good deal if their "Approved Used" scheme only has 6-month old cars in it, as they still have life left in their original warranty. Where it would be beneficial is if you're buying an old 355 or Daytona which I'd bet are excluded from the "Approved Used" scheme and hence the warranty.

It seems like a good idea, but I imagine there are a lot of T&Cs to comply with (mileage will be one of them, or the cost of the warranty will vary with mileage maybe?). Also, 'main dealer' servicing for these cars is a lot more than at a good indy.

So...combine an annual service at a main dealer plus the cost of the warranty...and it becomes a big outlay...but for an older Fezza it could still be worthwhile...

...and fair-play to Ferrari for offering it as an option, IMHO!

I thought due to a EU law/ruling (or some other reason), extended warranties weren't allowed to be manufacturer backed anymore. I guess though this is the original warranty, extended.

It's something like that. A guy at BMW once explained it to me when I was querying the huge price-hike in their extended warranty. Since the new EU rules were introduced warranties cover less and cost more... all thanks to some twit in Brussels making changes to "help" consumers. If Ferrari have found a way to circumvent this then good on them, and let's hope other manufacturers follow their example.

Martin

The cost is included in the price of the approved used car, new cars come with 4 year unlimited mileage warranty so it will apply to cars 3 years old or more. I think this warranty may be unlimited mileage as well but as you state it will have to be serviced by main dealer. All dealers sell approved & non approved cars the non approved don't have full MDFSH and get sold with a different warranty.
Main dealer servicing on cars over 4 years old is discounted so price not much difference to indi in most cases.

Haven't driven it for almost a month due to the weather...getting withdrawal symptoms.

Booked in for brakes, t-rod end and alignment this month, after which all the key mechanical stuff should be sorted...and I plan to make full use of her this year! Currently planning road-trips to SE France and NW Scotland... biggrin

Given the markups on cars, It's a good thing for that extra protection, seeing how temperamental they are!

John.
Mine came with nearly 3yrs factory warranty! Seems like the previous owner went nuts and bought a load of consecutive warranties in advance.
