we gave the go ahead to buy a house just before crimbo, and with the cold weather lately we want to check there are no leaks or splits in the plumbing due to the weather over the new year, the water has been turned off with no heating on during the winter. should I get a plumber in or could i just turn on the water and heating over a few hours and look for leaks?
any advice would be ace thanks thumbup

There's not much a plumber could do, apart from pressure-test the system.
Buy a bucket, turn the water on and live life on the edge.

Uh oh, wasn't it -7? You'll have more leeks and splits than a Welsh banana...

Should have kept the boiler on the frost setting, or have turned off the water and drained down the central heating and drinking water.

Often pipes go in a loft that aren't well lagged, or even for that matter, are lagged.

Leaks in the heating system would have already shown if it was left full.

Just chuck open the stop tap and get ready to turn it off quickly again, have the loft hatch open ready, most likely place to leak!

During a cold snap, header tanks and outside taps, pipes are the most vulnerable to freezing
