MTB Weekend Racing - advice

Okay... where's the best place to get an introduction to MTB racing? I've been cycling now for 2 years and think this year might be the time to see how I fair against a bunch of other fella's around a course. I'm looking for the 2hr events, x-country stuff, not endurance all day events. Is there a body who organises these things? All and any advice is welcomed. Doing it for the fun, nothing too serious yet. I'm west sussex based. Thanks.

Try finding a local club.

Good to have support when racing. And makes it much more of a social.
