Battery consumption rate - a question
Discussion
I'm off the Silverstone for the F1GP this year with my caravan. The van is mains power only so does not have a leisure battery but I would like power the 12v florescent lamps and so I was thinking of fitting a small sealed lead acid battery from Maplins. The description appears to state the output over time, for example 12V 4.2Ah battery. Does this mean that from fully charged the theoretical output would power a 12V 0.5amp device for 8.4 hours?
Yes, that's my understanding as long as the load is steady & constant.
I think if you try & draw more current for a shorter time though, the physical size & make up of the battery may act as a constraint & you may not be able to draw the current as you would expect (ie) If you wanted 8.4 amps for half an hour it wouldn't happen!
