I've never actually thought there were that many dumb people who fell for scams like the 'send me the money and i'll send you the car' routine or the 'can you ship your mobile phone to my uncle who is a minister in nigeria, i will pay you $800 for your £50 phone' scam, but apparently these people are more proliferent than i thought.

10% of the population apparently.

I'd say that alot more than 10% of the population are terminally stupid, so that figure is quite surprising to me.

Funnily enough, that was my first thought.

Is it 10% admit they were stupid enough to send off money to a scammer...

IQ is a bell curve.

It's frightening how dumb "average" is. For every nuclear physicist there's one dumb as a rock, and host of others only slightly more capable.

31% will still vote Labour.

Walking around the average high street would reveal about 85% of the population to be thick as pig st.

I'm quite sure it's the older generation that fool for this.
They discover technology then instantly get scammed by someone using it.

My dad got scammed out of about £500 by a nigerian girl on an MSN webcam session.
Complained about how her mother needed an operation, she'd sold her car and fridge but still needed more money.
As far as i can tell this happened after being contacted on a dating site.

A fool and their money are easily parted.

I still can't believe that he thought someone would sell their car and fridge before they would sell their computer and cancel their internet connection.

Anyway, yeah. People are stupid.

Well, some people will even vote for a political party whose former leader had lied to them, whose current leader has denied them a promised referendum, wrecked the economy and continues in extreme left wing policies, so I think folks you have all the evidence you need of some people's capacity for stupididty and gullibility.

On another forum someone admitted being caught out by a car related one.

He had a car up on AutoTrader. Someone rang and said they were from AutoTrader asking if the car had been sold - it hadn't. So he then made various suggestions to improve the ad, and offered a deal to run it for another couple of weeks. Punter accepted and gave his credit card details.

He reckons even with hindsight it sounded completely plausible - call centre noise in background etc and the guy spend some time getting the ad just right.
