Speedplay pedals

Hello!

Cycle to work voucher arriving in the next 3 days (after 2 months delay!)

Already got a Boardman Team Carbon waiting to be picked up at Halfords, just got a quick question re pedals.

Spending about £100 on some decent pedals. So far my shortlist is Shimano SPD, Look carbon & Crank Brothers Eggbeater jobbies. All these pedals have been recommended to me.

However looking on Wiggle, Speedplay seem to be about 20grams lighter for about the same money. I know 20 gramms is nothing to a fatty like me but it seems worth having.

Anyone had got any good things to say about Speedplay? I hear stories of unlimited float which i think will feel weired at first?

Avoid.

Either Look if you're on going to be a true roadie, or Shimano for utter reliablity and life. Crank Brother only if you like replacing bearings alot.

Just not Speedplay's.

I say this with utter conviction and experience. I also probably had every set I ever sold returned.

I bought some Outland (Look Keo copy) pedals from Merlin for less than £22 - Theyr'e excellent & I'm happy to fit them on a £1k+ roadbike..

Some people love Speedplay, as they are easy to clip in/out and they have loads of float.

Ignore their light weight, as they have very heavy cleats. The combined pedal/cleat is heavier then Look Keo Carbons.
