I'm an idiot, 105mph
Discussion
On the A1(m) this morning.
A very obvious car on a raised platform at the side of the road, still can't believe I didn't see it, got me with a laser gun thingy.
What am I looking at, if I plead with them that I need my licence for work?
P.S. Only paperwork I got, or signed, was a producer. Is this normal?

Think of the plus side
1) The van may have been targetting another car at the time you were doing 105
2) You dont know for sure that they were not taking a break or something
3) I bet your speedo is not 100% accurate so you may have been doing 95 or 99 instead of an actual 105.
4) Dont worry about not seeing it, even if you had there is no way you would of reacted in time. These buggers will get you from nearly a mile off!
And finally
5) If you do keep your license - GET A JAMMER

Over 95 will go to court. Typically will hear something in around 3 to 4 months with a court date and paperwork.
Over 100 recommended ban. Give you odds of 60% to 80%for a ban of between 2 and 4 weeks.
Assumes they treat the A1 as motorway if not then increase everything.
If you need a licence get a Solicitor

The 'normal' course of practice would be being told that you would be reported for the offence of speeding and the warning formula given.
You would then be given a form HORT/1 if you didnt have the relavent docs with you.
You will then get a summons to attend the local Mags Court.
If you need you licence then get some good mitigation/hardship etc or get yourself represented.

Looks as if he has booked you for a Court appearance at that speed and should have told you so.
Does the words "You will be reported for the consideration of the question of prosecuting you for exceeding a speed limit" ring a bell and may be followed by "Your not obliged to say anything etc etc"?
Next thing in the weeks ahead could be a summons dropping through the door. Harrogate or Richmond Mags Court? (A1(M) south or north?)
If you can genuinely prove disqualification, which is possible at that speed, would lead to loss of job, loss of house, breakup of marriage etc., then you can plead this in mitigation and escape a ban if Mags believe you. Best done by a solicitor but be aware this escape clause is being abused and Mags may not believe you so you will need evidence to satisfy them.

I think you missunderstood, the car that was very obvious pulled out and pulled me over. The nice policeman told me personally that he clocked me on his gun thingy at 105, told me he would action it and gave me a producer.
I don't think hoping he didn't see me will help!
Ah. sorry, thought you had just seen a laser van on a bridge or something.
Good luck

If I get a ban how many points will I get?
If I manage to squirm my way out of a ban, how many points will I get?
How much are they likely to take out of my wallet?
Having previously had an umblemished record I am totally unaware of all of the above!
Assuming I'm guilty of course!
If you get a ban you get no points.

A ban = no points?
I suppose it still has a negative effect on insurance, the same or worse?
Which stays on your record longer?
My understanding is that if you get a ban for a one-off speeding offence it will usually be short, say 2 or 4 weeks. As far as your driving licence is concerned your licence is reset to zero, so you can build up another 12 points, although any subsequent ban is likely to be longer.
In fact there is a lot to be said for driving at 100mph plus on motorways, your chances of getting caught are relatively light, and a short ban is better than clocking up 6 or 9 months and having to spend 3 years sticking to the limits!

As rwegards insurance a ban will affect it, but to be banned for speeding will not have such a significant impact as drunk driving!

IIRC, a short ban (<28 days?) does not reset the points.
