How do you get rid of bad stuff on your comp?
Discussion
Hi
I regularly use that spybot search and destroy program, and it does the job temporarily.
I do an AVG anti-virus scan most mornings....doesn't seem to pick them up as a danger, just a warning as a tracking cookie.
I have done the spybot, rebooted and then done a search on the other progs to make sure I remove all the programs attached to them...but they still keep coming back!
I delete cookies, temporary internet files etc...and re-run spybot again...but as soon as I re-boot, they all reappear.
The ones I'm trying to be rid of are
Adviva, Doubleclick, Mediaplex, RightMedia, statcounter, Bluestreak, and webtrendslive.
I just dont seem to have the capability to kill them outright.
Can someone help please?

Depending on your browser you can restrict cookie settings. FF allows you to allow or block individual sites/domains. Other browsers probably the same.
How would I go about doing that please? I'm XP, IE 7 or 8, haven't a clue....and to the previous poster, tis not porn sites.
You could also try something like Adblock and NoScript under Firefox. A lot of people on here use that combo, and should stop a lot of other stuff.
I dont think the things you mention are classed as dangerous but AV used with the stuff above will make you as protected as you generally can.
To be perfectly clean you need to get your tin hat on and never connect to the internet lol

I've spent quite a lot of time looking....but I can't see the manage sites option anywhere.
I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
The screen shot is from IE8 - if you're not using it you really ought to upgrade to it though I'm sure the option is very similar in IE7.I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Typically the last item on the toolbar is Tools. Click that and come down to Internet Options. From the tabs along the top select Privacy, then click the button called Sites.
HTH
Haha! I put a similar post up recently and recieved equally useless replies, which is odd considering the amount of self professed "IT Pro's" that grace this site.
I just reformatted and re-installed and upgraded my AV in the end, job done!
PIA though, i think they are self replicating once embedded in your registry.

Malwarebytes does a good job. Also grab as many "standalone" scanners as you can (Norman, Sophos, DrWeb, McAfee) and run them in Safe Mode (as you'll have more chance of finding hidden nasties).
Also have a look at things like the F-Secure boot CD which is, as the name suggests, a bootable CD which you boot from (with a wired internet connection) and which downloads the latest definitions and then scans your computer from outside of a live Windows environment.
Ultimately, it's often quicker/easier (easy for me to say) to wipe/image a machine than to a) spend the time doing all of the above and b) take the chance that it's actually clean - without wanting to be patronising spyware/malware is very clever and persistent these days.

If you read the answer given by marshalla he gave you the answer. I just reformatted and re-installed and upgraded my AV in the end, job done!
