Discussion
hi there.right here we go.i took my pride and joy(1994 celica gt)for its mot today and its failed on the following
1 cv boot
2 abs light doesnt come on(not the bulb)
3 the emissions are pumping out too much c02
now i know nothing about cars but i know the last 2 things could be quite bad.i was just wondering a few things really
how much is a cv boot?
he told me on the abs it coud be the pump or a sensor.how much could i expect to pay for either of those?
and lastly if the emissions are down to the cat being knackered how much are they?i've seen them on ebay for about 200.does that sound about right?
sorry its long winded but i feel like crying.lol.thnx in advance

Hi mate, don't know the ST202 at all really, but the problems you describe are common across nearly all cars. When did you last have it serviced??
CV boot is cheap to have done. £15-20 + 1hr labour (you don't want to DIY this.
ABS light may be the fuse (£1), sensor (£25), the pump (a lot more) or even something else.
Emmissions will be down to the fuel/air mixture not being right, this can be caused by a lot of things.
Ask your friendly mechanic to take a look at those things for you.

First two can be fixed easy but the co2 emissions are a pain. You need to give the car a good hoon before its test to get the cat working. Also, if you look for a thread on celica club (alternatively ask this same question on the forum) there was a guy who used something in his tank to get his emissions lower. Can't quite remember the name of the booster at the moment so apologies.
It could also be due to a faulty lambda sensor, which need changing every 60k odd miles (so they say). Best thing to do is get onto the celica club forum and have a mooch around. There were quite a fair few threads like this if you do a search.

thnx for the responses.i had a call from the mechanic today and he said the cat is ok.he told me it was something else but i cant remember what it was.doh...anyway he told me he got the cv boot for 40 quid and the abs was down to a faulty sensor which would cost 125 quid.he said all in all the bill to do the lot with the re test would be 262 quid which sounds good to me.what you guys think??
