Almost rehetorical question but noriced my net connection seems to have slowed right down of late so thought I'd speedtest it. I'm with talktalk on the 8meg package and live in an apartment block in central manchester with 5 other blocks in the immeadiate vicinity. I understand that it's peak time at the minute but this has got to be a joke. Also it's saying i'm with Opal Telecom, wtf?

Opal Telecom is the ISP who supply TalkTalk, or TalkTalk are a division of Opal, either way it's perfectly normal for a TalkTalk or AOL connection to 'appear' as Opal Telecom.

As for the speeds, there's a whole host of reasons why you could be getting such rubbish speeds. Is your network secure? What speed does the router report it has connected at? Do you get similar results if you connect to the router using a cable rather than wifi? What speeds do your neighbours get? And so on...

Connected by ethernet so no wifi issues, strangely I seem to be having issues with the landline as well as it's full of static. Although I'm still having that issue when I plug the phone directly into the socket. Can't even ring talktalk because I can't hear the menus! Microfilter could be a consideration, I'll grab one from from maplins tomorrow to see if that helps. Getting a sense of 56k nostalgia at the moment, the bad old days! Oh, and I've recently rebooted the router after somehow breaking the connection by sticking the phone in the spare socket. Now showing 0.22 megabits ffs!!! Any other ideas?

I'll get onto the lovely people at talktalk tomorrow then. Cheers guys, hopefully all will be sorted soon, or else I may have to chuck everything out of the window, frustrated does nor cut it! Just realised it sounds like I'm streaming porn. I'm not.

But if I was I'd be even more irate!

I love the whole ISP 'UP to X speed' i.e. we will give you p!ss all and charge you for it.
Would love to try the other side of the coin - 'I will pay you up to £X'
